I really like the blinking mechanic. It feels like when you're very sleep deprived in a morning class, and you keep drifting off without realizing it, so you're constantly snapping yourself awake and fighting your own mind. Really cool whenever these mechanics compliment the atmosphere and context of the song

I think my favourite detail in this entire song is the fact Impostward may actually not exist. There’s a chance he may be a hallucination, or even something else entirely. It’s extremely ambiguous on what he actually is, and he may not even be anything I’ve guessed just now. - Throughout the entire song, his notes are never visible to the player. The player never actually sees what notes he’s hitting at any point. - Impostward has a glitch effect in every spritesheet. In his normal form, it’s a more ethereal effect that’s less of a glitch and seems to be something else. In every other form, however, it’s a full on glitch effect. The first glitch effect seems closer to the rainbow trail left behind when something moves in some depictions of being on LSD. - The outside of the Krusty Krab is constantly distorting, but is normal again once the song ends. - He just vanishes once the song ends. No attempt to kill Squidward in any form, no attempt to communicate, Impostward just disappears suddenly and without warning once Squidward blinks for the final time.
By the way, this reminded me a lot of the Tidal Zone from the official series, because there, everything that arose from there was just as unreal in reality. In the official series, all the creatures from the Tidal Zone could sooner or later disappear, which made it seem to everyone else that what real creatures saw might be considered hallucinations. It is possible that in this mod the action of Surrogate also takes place in the Tidal Zone, but who knows. At the time the creepypasta was created (about 10 years ago) in the official Spongebob series, the Tidal Zone did not yet exist. And actually, no, Impostward has a physical form, and like all creatures from the Tidal Zone, he can materially harm Squidward, and even kill him, as was shown in the Game Over to Surrogate.
I like this theory. But I also like to Imagine That the death screen (Where squidward dies) also apart of his imagination but it seems unlikely. I think that the Impostward is a symbolic meaning that He’s Death itself or something coming for squidward, and if you have any ideas about the death screen I’d be happy to listen.

the game over screen is basically Squidward getting killed, but not directly by impostward, he just gets killed and done in analog horror, he even has the black square covering his head.
The song feels like squidwards having some sort of lucid nightmare, especially the ending. It reminds me of how you can suddenly wake up from a dream part way through.

I was shaking due to how his appearance in his true form was slowly shifting and glitching out in his sprites, yall made a FNF song that hasn't made me feel SCARED in the longest time and that says something about MCM. now that i’ve seen the full version, i think ive misunderstood what this song was trying to be. I like it now that i see it is (pardon this rough explanation) like a horror movie soundtrack, not necessarily meant to be pleasing to listen to like music you’d hear on the radio but to add to the fear, which is a great thing. This song reminded me of Rumor from Friday Night Crunching. Very similar progression and atmosphere, and also crazy loud section in the middle. The only difference is that while Rumor was more melodic, this song goes pure nightmare fuel.

weird how the teasers for this song made me think it was going to be my least favorite, but it ended up being my favorite out of the mod demo since it is just so.......different
Just from this one song alone, especially during the second half’s visuals, I can definitely see why this demo took so long to put together! Amazing work to the dev team, because they absolutely cooked! This is for sure my favorite track out of the six songs so far (next to Paradise and Humiliation), and I cannot wait for the rest of the new, remade songs in the full mod in the future!

This is honestly one of the best scariest song I've heard in my entire life, seeing Squidward's doppelganger mutating, deforming, and changing into nothing like him just shows how horrifying it would be if it even exist. Oh and uh its still demo, but still, its peak. And speaking of which, the blinking mechanic is kinda new to me. Overall, incredible demo.
I just simply love Squidward's sprites on 3rd and 4th phase, you really notice his impact of how he is confronting something that nobody knows what is, and he expects that this is his last chance on his life.

Hi VainillaVani and the composers of "Surrogate", I know this might not get seen, but I’d love if you could remix the song. The first part is awesome, but when it shifts to the next phase, the chromatic notes get a bit lost and aren’t as clear. That said, the art is stunning. I’m not trying to harsh anything, I just really loved this song in the demo and your mod has been my favorite since it dropped. I think a few tweaks could take it to the next level. This is honestly one of the best scariest song I've heard in my entire life, seeing Squidward's doppelganger mutating, deforming, and changing into nothing like him just shows how horrifying it would be if it even exist. Oh and uh its still demo, but still, its peak. And speaking of which, the blinking mechanic is kinda new to me. Overall, incredible demo.

I just simply love Squidward's sprites on 3rd and 4th phase, you really notice his impact of how he is confronting something that nobody knows what is, and he expects that this is his last chance on his life.
I like how slow this song is. This gives me fight or flight vibes. It isn’t fast, but slow and intense.

Hi VainillaVani and the composers of "Surrogate", I know this might not get seen, but I’d love if you could remix the song. The first part is awesome, but when it shifts to the next phase, the chromatic notes get a bit lost and aren’t as clear. That said, the art is stunning. I’m not trying to harsh anything, I just really loved this song in the demo and your mod has been my favorite since it dropped. I think a few tweaks could take it to the next level. Might be worth considering if others feel the same.
